QuasiTV 3.0.2 / QuasiTVSync Server 1.0.1

I was notified earlier in the week by a user who had to redo his jellyfin server from scratch and accidentally selected the Jellyfin 12 release candidate, that it did not work at all with QuasiTV.  After looking into it, Jellyfin completely removed many of their legacy / deprecated apis (from when it was first branched from Emby).  QuasiTV was using the same apis for both Jellyfin and Emby, so it was not working at all.  Both the client and server have now been updated to their modern apis and will work with Jellyfin 12, which I'd imagine is getting released fairly soon. I also updated the sync server documentation based off the feedback I've gotten from some users who were having issues setting up the server. QuasiTV 3.0.1-3.0.2 (2026-07-24): Fixed using seasons in collections for plex Added support for Jellyfin 12 Apk download QuasiTVSync Server 1.0.1 (2026-07-25): Added support for Jellyfin 12 (11.12) Fixed issue using seasons in plex collections PUID and PGID should n...

QuasiTV 3.0.0 is now out. Support for QuasiTVSync Server

I pushed QuasiTV 3.0.0 to the app stores a few days ago which was quickly followed by my PC completely dying, so I was unable to make a post about it until I was back up and running. 3.0.0 brings support for the new QuasiTVSync server (which also had its 1.0.0 release a few days ago) via the new Ultimate tier in app purchase.  Information on setting up the server is on this website: https://gonemadsoftware.github.io/quasitv-sync/  Currently there is only support for docker but I do plan on making a standalone windows installer at some point. The sync server lets you store all your profiles, channels, and schedules all in a single location.  This allows every QuasiTV client to connect and share the same schedule 3.0.0 apk download

QuasiTVSync Server now available in beta

For the past few years I have been working on a backend server that keeps all QuasiTV clients in sync with each other.  The server is now available for testing in the beta version of QuasiTV on Google Play.  Once out of beta it will also be available on the Amazon Appstore and direct apk download.  FYI the beta version is actually named "(2.14.2 Alpha)", but future updates will be versioned correctly at 3.0.x Access to the server does require an in app purchase to the QuasiTV Ultimate tier.  Similar to Premium, you can upgrade from Pro or Premium for a reduced cost. Right now there is only a docker version of the Sync Server, but I do plan on having a standalone windows installer for those who run their plex / emby / jellyfin servers on windows.  For now I am limiting the testing to google play for the client, and docker for the server. QuasiTV 2.13.0

Image
You will now have the ability to backup and restore your channels and profiles via the web admin UI.  There are some caveats to backup/restore: You can only restore a backup to the same server.  A channel is really just a list of show / movie ids, so if you switch to a different server (or clear your server of all content and rescan everything), it will not work. Profile pictures and pins will not be restored.  I did not want to save pins / passwords in plain text, so you will have to set a pin again if you are using it and reupload profile pics The importing of channels from other QuasiTV instances will still be available, but I imagine it will not be needed nearly as often due to the backup/restore. You can access backup and restore under the web admin UI under settings QuasiTV 2.13.0 (2026-05-31): Added backup / restore options to the web ui (under settings).  You can now backup channels and profiles to a file that can be restored at a later point. QuasiTV 2.12.1

Image
I added the ability to change the "resize mode" of the playback area.  You can toggle between fit, fill, and zoom.  This should allow you to take 4:3 content and have it stretch to fill the screen.  You will see the button to toggle this in the media controls QuasiTV 2.12.1 (2026-05-20): Updated exoplayer/media to 1.10.1 Added resize mode button to media controls.  Includes fit(default), fill, and zoom modes. Updated other dependencies Download apk here

QuasiTV 2.11.1

Just uploaded a minor update with some fixes.  The channel guide navigation was improved to fix situations like this video in the link below: https://imgur.com/a/FOs4IV5 The guide will now try to keep what is "currently playing", as long as the previous selection was also currently playing.  There were some other improvements to the navigation but this was the most impactful. QuasiTV 2.11.1 (2026-02-21): Hide hidden channels from home screen channel Fixed home screen channel images not showing up on some devices Improved channel guide navigation, especially when scrolling through what is currently on Download apk

QuasiTV 2.11.0

Image
Home screen channels have been added to QuasiTV.  This is nice addition to android TV launchers that actually support it.  Unfortunately both fire tv and google tv devices seem to no longer support the "Tv provider" api anymore, but the nvidia shield's launcher and projectivy launcher do support it. QuasiTV will now add a row on the home screen showing what is currently playing on the last used profile (in projectivy you need to manually add the row).  The "watch next" section will also get an entry to show what's on the last watched channel.  Click on a card will jump you straight to that channel. Download apk here. Changelog QuasiTV 2.11.0 (2026-02-07): Added home screen channels (only some TV launchers support channels) Watch Next on home screen on supported TV launchers will now get populated with the last channel watched Updated exoplayer / media3 to 1.9.2 Fixed web admin artwork not loading correctly

QuasiTV 2.10.1

Did some more dependency updates, the big one being exoplayer / media3 being updated to 1.9.1, and fixed a few bugs.  There was a fairly bad bug with the web admin and profiles that could put quasi tv in an unusable state, so that should no longer happen anymore. https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/media3#1.9.0 https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/media3#1.9.1 I know development of the app has seemed slow but I have been working on something pretty big for the last two years and it is getting much closer to completion.  One of the common requests is a way to keep multiple QuasiTV client's sync'd together with the same channels and schedule.  I have been working on a solution: a standalone QuasiTV Sync Server.  All channels and schedules are stored there and sent to all connected clients.  Hop on discord for more information about this.  It will hopefully start being available for testing / beta in a few months. QuasiTV 2.9.0

2.9.0 is another dependency update along with some sdk changes.  Unfortunately android 5.0 and 5.1 are no longer support due to some of the dependencies now requiring 6.0 as a minimum.  A quick look at devices no longer supported and they are all pretty old (2017 or earlier): Amazon Fire TV (Gen 2) Amazon Fire TV Edition - Element 4K (2017) Amazon Fire TV (Gen 1) Amazon Fire TV Stick (Gen 1) Amazon Fire TV Stick (Gen 2) Exoplayer updates: https://github.com/androidx/media/releases/tag/1.8.0 QuasiTV 2.9.0 (2025-09-24): Updated target api level to 36 Updated min api level to 23 Updated exoplayer/media3 to 1.8.0 Updated billing library to 8.0.0 Updated other dependencies Download Link

QuasiTV 2.8.0

2.8.0 is another dependency update and a Spanish translation has been added.  Translations are crowd sourced so anyone can add a translation if they so desire.  The translations are hosted here on localazy:  https://localazy.com/p/quasitv Exoplayer updates: https://github.com/androidx/media/releases/tag/1.6.0 https://github.com/androidx/media/releases/tag/1.6.1 QuasiTV 2.8.0 (2025-05-03): Added spanish translation Updated media3/exoplayer to 1.6.1 Updated ktx core to 1.16.0 Updated leanback to 1.2.0 Updated room to 2.7.1 Updated work manager to 2.10.1 Updated kotlin to 2.1.20 Updated android build tools Download Link

QuasiTV 2.7.0

Image
2.7.0 adds some channel guide improvements and fixes.  When opening the guide the currently playing video will be highlighted instead of whatever was scheduled for the current clock time on the channel. You also can now select the actual channel by moving the guide all the way to the left.  Selecting the channel will jump "live" to that channel.  Finally, I changed the settings button on the player controls to a "go live" button which will jump to the wall clock time for the current channel.  The old settings button was a hold over from a time before there was a side menu to access the settings. 2.7.0 (2025-03-20): The channel name is now selectable in the channel guide.  Selecting will go "live" to the selected channel Currently playing video should now be initially selected when opening channel guide Replaced settings button in player controls with a "go live" button.  Settings can be opened via the side menu A bunch of channel guide fixes Upd...

QuasiTV 2.6.0

2.6.0 update is mostly just updates to dependencies / kotlin.  Biggest part of the update would be targetting the latest version of android.  I am not really sure if there are any TV devices that are even running android 15, but hey now QuasiTV is optimized for it! 2.6.0 (01-29-2025): Updated target sdk to 35 (android 15) Updated kotlin to 2.0.21 Updated media3/exoplayer to 1.5.1 Updated glide version to 4.16.0 Updated ktx core to 1.15.0 Updated work manager to 2.10.0 Download 2.6.0 apk

QuasiTV 2.5.2

Pushed another update that should make additional improvements to playlist shuffling.  I had not really factored in a playlist full of movies when making the updates to 2.5.1, so these additional changes should work better for both TV and Movie content. For these changes to take affect immediately, you will want to reschedule the channel.  Otherwise, the new schedule changes will apply at the end of the current 24 hr schedule 2.5.2 (2024-12-20): More tweaks to playlist scheduler Download 2.5.2 apk

QuasiTV 2.5.1

QuasiTV 2.5.1 (2024-12-10): Fixed issue with playback using the latest emby server betas Improve playlist shuffle to lower chances of repeats being scheduled close together Direct Download

QuasiTV 2.5.0

QuasiTV 2.5.0 (2024-11-26): Added option to import channels using direct ip:port of quasitv instance instead of relying on multicast Updated media3 exoplayer to 1.5.0 Updated web admin flutter version and dependencies Here are the changes in the exoplayer update: https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/media3#1.5.0 I get a lot of requests from people for the apk of QuasiTV so they can sideload it on their tablet or phone so I decided to make on available here .  Keep in mind sideloading the apk is not supported by myself so please do not email about issues when doing so.  QuasiTV was not designed for non TV user interfaces and no official support for touchscreens.  Use at your own risk.

QuasiTV 2.4.0

I went through and updated all the dependencies QuasiTV uses.  The 2 important updates would be the google play billing library (google now requires all updates to be using billing 7.0.0 or newer), and updating exoplayer to 1.4.0. Here is a blog from google about the 1.4.0 update:  https://medium.com/google-exoplayer/media3-1-4-0-whats-new-ba1c9c17ee1a Full release notes posted here:  https://github.com/androidx/media/blob/release/RELEASENOTES.md QuasiTV 2.4.0 (2024-08-06): Updated appcompat to 1.7.0 Updated exoplayer to 1.4.0 Updated billing library to 7.0.0 Updated fragment library to 1.8.2 Updated ktx core to 1.13.1 Updated lifecycle lib to 2.8.4 Update is now live on google play and amazon app store

QuasiTV 2.2.0

Image
All of QuasiTV's dependencies have been updated including a fairly large update to exoplayer, which moved it from the deprecated standalone exoplayer project (2.19.1) , into the exoplayer included in the official Android Jetpack Media3 library (1.2.1) . Also included is the ability to force a sync with your plex/emby/jellyfin server instead of waiting for it to happen naturally (every 2 hours or so).  The option is present in the in app settings and also in the web ui settings. Finally there is an improved way to search for content to add to your channels.  The web ui search now has a "Bulk Search" option that lets you enter multiple shows, one on each line.  The search results will then show all matches for each show.  This makes it easy to add multiple shows to a channel at the same time. Update has been uploaded to both google play and amazon and are just waiting for approval. QuasiTV 2.2.0 (2024-02-10): Updated playback engine to exoplayer from androidx med...

QuasiTV 2.1.0 - Playlist / Collection Based Custom Channels

Image
QuasiTV now supports custom channels based off playlists or collections.  QuasiTV Premium and Pro users will now be able to use the web admin UI to add these channels (not available in app editor).  When adding a new channel, you will prompted to choose from the list of playlists / collections, and then prompted to name the channel.   Playlist channels can be either played in order, or completely shuffled.  Collection channels have the same options as other custom channels (shuffle show / movie order and shuffle episodes). QuasiTV 2.1.0 (2023-10-02): -Added collection / playlist channels (requires premium/pro upgrade) -Improved shuffling episodes to prevent showing the same episodes as often -Fixed renaming channel by pressing the keyboard "done" button in the in-app editor -Remove channel list in app now lists channels alphabetically -Only retry playback on error if the episode was started within the last 20 seconds -Fixed add show/movie icon in channel editor ...

QuasiTV 2.0.1

2.0.1 will be rolling out over the next few days with some fixes.   One fix was quite interesting.  When playing back media, QuasiTV has to construct a URL with info on what media to play AND information about the device it is running on.  Turns out AT&T made a TV device, so when playing on this device.. it would construct a URL with "X-Plex-Device=AT&T TV" in it.  The & is actually a reserved character in urls to indicate multiple parameters, so this was causing the server to fail to parse the url and would error out.  QuasiTV now just strips out & in device / model names before creating the url and playback works again. Enjoy! QuasiTV 2.0.1 (2023-05-22): Fixed episode restarting after a google assistant or alexa prompt Fixed issue where media wouldn't play on devices with ampersands in the device or model name
